Welding / Retreading Department
Welding belongs to the category of permanent connections between pieces. It is a special branch of technology, which connects simple mechanical engineering solutions with the most research achievements of the positive sciences. The connection of the metal pieces is achieved through heat and aims at the final piece to have the same strength as the original pieces. The list of items or products that have welded parts is endless and includes from electronic circuit components to ships, shafts, impellers, metal parts, industrial constructions, etc. For the production of composite structures, welds replaced the much more expensive casting. The advantages of welds over casting are: economy in material, lower cost and realization of complex constructions, which with casting are impossible or very difficult.
By the technical term retreading of a metal surface we mean the restoration of a worn metal surface or part of a component, to be reused for use with the same technical characteristics that it had. Refilling (filling) of a worn metal part is done in the cases when:
• The part is no longer on the market, due to the age of the machine to which it belongs
• Replacing a worn part with a new one is costly
• A part of a machine part is broken (eg the tooth of a cogwheel).
The wear of a metal component can result from the increase in the values of the operating parameters of the components of machines and devices (high loads and speeds) which causes their accelerated wear.
The application of retreading on defective parts is a source of great material savings and a lever for increasing production, because, due to the low frequency of replacement of defective parts, which comes from wear, the downtime of the machines is limited. By using retreading, the efficiency of the process is increased and the consumption of additional materials is reduced.
